Rolfing Structural Integration Amsterdam
Rolfing Structural Integration is bodywork that looks at how your body organizes itself as a whole. Not just at a single muscle or a painful spot, but at the relationship between feet, pelvis, ribs, breath, neck, and attention.
In Amsterdam, I work with Structural Integration. Rolfing is the best-known name for this work. Until my formal certification, I use that name carefully and clearly explain what I do and do not offer.
For whom this work suits
This work is often suitable when symptoms return or shift. You may have already tried massage, physiotherapy, or training, but notice that the pattern quickly returns.
Rolfing or Structural Integration requires curiosity. You don't just lie down to have something repaired. You also explore how you move, carry, hold back, persevere, or compensate.
What I do
I work with fascia, muscles, joints, breath, and movement. The touch can be slow and firm, but the goal is not to push as deep as possible. The goal is to give your body more options.
Sometimes the focus is on the feet or legs. Sometimes on the pelvis, chest, shoulders, or neck. The order depends on what is needed and what your system can handle.
What you can notice
People sometimes notice more space in their breath or movement, a different posture without holding it tightly, or more contact with the ground. Sometimes, you mainly notice that you recognize old tension more quickly.
Not everything changes in a session. Structural work usually takes time, because attitude is also a habit.
Proposed addition
Rolfing Structural Integration in Amsterdam is not a trick to straighten your posture. I look at how the feet, pelvis, ribs, breath, neck, and attention work together. A complaint is sometimes localized in one spot, but often originates within a larger pattern.
In a session, we work with touch, movement, and awareness. Sometimes the pressure is firm. Sometimes it is slow and precise. The goal is not to push as deep as possible, but to give your body more options.
This work is particularly suitable when complaints recur, shift, or are related to posture, breathing, or strain. Not everything changes in one session. Structural work usually takes time.
New complete proposal for this page
If tension or pain keeps recurring, the underlying cause is sometimes greater than the location where you feel it. A stiff neck can be related to breathing, ribs, the pelvis, feet, or the way you absorb stress.
Rolfing Structural Integration looks at the whole. Not to complicate everything, but to see where your body has little choice. Where it holds on. Where movement is lacking. Where your system keeps using the same solution, even when it no longer helps.
What Rolfing at Harai means
In my practice, I work with Structural Integration. Rolfing is the best-known name for this work. I use that name carefully and explain what I do: slow, precise bodywork with attention to fascia, muscles, joints, breath, and movement.
The touch can be firm, but hard work is not the goal. Depth is created through tempo, direction, and dosage. If your body tenses up, the pressure is usually too much or too fast.
For whom this might be suitable
Rolfing can be beneficial if symptoms recur or shift. For example, tension in the neck and shoulders, back pain, hips that offer little room, shallow breathing, or a posture that requires a lot of effort.
It works best if you are willing to empathize. You are not just lying passively on the table. Sometimes I ask you to move slowly, follow your breath, or notice what changes when pressure, direction, or support shifts.
How a session proceeds
We start with a brief intake. I look at your posture and movement and ask what you notice. Then we work on the table, sitting or sometimes standing. The order depends on your needs and what your system can handle at that moment.
Sometimes the focus is on the feet and legs. Sometimes on the pelvis, chest, shoulders, or neck. The goal is not perfect posture, but more freedom of movement and more options in how your body organizes itself.
Rolfing, massagetherapie of deep tissue
If there is a clear complaint and you primarily want to work in a targeted manner, you can massage therapy be appropriate. If it primarily concerns local tension in deeper tissue, also read about deep tissue massage.
You usually choose Rolfing when posture, breath, load, and habitual patterns seem to play a role together. If you are unsure, the selection aid to choose more calmly.
When preferably not
In case of fever, acute inflammation, recent surgery, new neurological symptoms, loss of strength, or worrying pain, it is wiser to postpone or seek medical assessment. Rolfing does not replace diagnosis or treatment by a doctor or physiotherapist.
If you are primarily looking for a gentle massage without examination or active participation, then this suits you. holistic massage probably better.
